Summer Stitching...

I'm enjoying the summer and having some time to design and stitch! I've just sent the long awaited Boo (Halloween) Logs to the printer after taking the final stitches on Sunday. Shops can pre-order now or if you don't have a local shop, you can get it here. Like the other "Logs" designs, Boo Logs is worked entirely with Watercolours and two Kreinik #12 braids. I was so happy when Caron Collection introduced "Coal" with the last new Watercolours - it was the perfect border for this piece!

I took my niece up to North Carolina last week for a little vacation and for her to attend classes at the John Campbell Folk Art School. I have to admit I was a bit jealous dropping her off every morning for "camp" - she had a great time and made paper crafts, painted, sewed, blazed a trail, and more I can't even remember! We managed to sneak in some quilting - she's 8 and I taught her to use Grandma's iron & sewing machine. She picked out fabrics, I cut squares, and she sewed a quilt for her doll. She did a great job and loved it.  I was so pleased she caught on quickly to using the machine and to placing the fabrics in the right places to have a balanced look. She may have the family sewing/needle genes and a natural eye for color and design. I knew she was on the right track when she said, "sewing is more fun than pressing"! I had a good giggle!

In other family news, I became a Great-Aunt last week! My nephew's wife had a baby, Robert Samuel on June 28th - he's my brother's first grandchild and my parent's first Great - it's a little surreal! New life really is amazing and we're so excited to welcome Samuel into the world. Unfortunately, I have to wait a few months to see him in person.

I'm looking forward to being at home for another month before teaching at the ANG Seminar in New Orleans at the end of August. I had a really busy spring/early summer with a lot of travel so am enjoying staying put for a bit! In addition to my many administrative duties, I'll be designing and stitching more than usual! I've got a couple of things going and a few others rattling around gathering creative juices.

Hope you're all having a great summer!
Kathy

  1. Oh My, this will definately be bought ASAP! More designers should know that people love Halloween. There are not enough patterns out there! I just finished a Halloween needlepoint that will be up all year. This will be hanging beside it!

Autumn Logs pillow

Just a quick post to show my finished Autumn Logs made into a pillow. The center looks washed out in the photo but I can't take another because I sent the pillow up to Fireside Stitchery - they're having a Needle Delights Originals trunk show right now and have over a dozen of my pieces - check them out if you're in the northeast! http://www.firesidestitchery.com/     Today is the first day of my online class "Inchies" - here's the Confetti colorway - one of my students already finished it and sent a photo!     I'm working on something new and will show you a peek soon! More Serenity and something new...

I'm so pleased to show you photos of some of my students' work! They've had such fun stitching Serenity and several have completed it. It's such fun to see the different colorways come to life! First up is Pam B's - it's called "Flowers of Italy". She was clever and added her initials to the piece - can you find them?!   Next is Highland Garden - it was one of the most popular colorways!   And here's Arnhem Heath, the ever popular purple and green!  I'll be teaching this project at Needle in a Haystack in Alameda, CA next month - if you're wanting some Serenity, come join us. You can see all the info here. Kathy

In full swing...

I've been getting ready for my big summer trip - I'm heading to the midwest next month. First I'll be attending the TNNA Needlework tradeshow in St Charles, Missouri and then am heading to Chicago for the ANG National Seminar. I'm taking a class with Orna Willis and looking forward to being with someone who has great color sense! I'll also be participating at Expo Night. I'm looking for a couple of people who have experience in such events who would be willing to help me - contact me privately if you are interested.  Before I go to Seminar, I'll be teaching August 22-23 at Tomorrow's Heirlooms. You can get more details on their Facebook page here . I'm really having fun working on the piece and wish I could show you part of it but alas, it's a Mystery! I haven't done a Mystery class for the last two years and I'm happy to be designing another - I look forward to being able to share it and eventually publish it. I will be releasing six
