Goodbye to 2016...

Happy Holidays - 2017 is upon us and I'm happy to have this whole week between Christmas and New Year's to bring in 2017. To thank you for a fabulous 2016, I'm having a Year End Sale. To celebrate the 2017 New Year, all kits in stock are 17% off. Enter the coupon code "2017NDO" in the checkout section of the website's Catalog.

To my shopowner friends: email me if you'd like to place a sale order for charts...

In the months and months since I last blogged, I logged quite a few miles and taught a number of classes from coast to coast. My calendar is full for 2017 and I'll be posting my schedule soon. I'm looking forward to meeting more of you as I travel around the country.

Next year's Mystery design is almost complete and I can't wait to share all the details (except what it looks like of course!) with you. Here's a tiny peek - the official registration announcement will be mid January. I've enjoyed creating this piece and am excited to offer it to you.

I'm looking forward to finished up the Mystery so I can work on something new. I did some personal stitching over the holidays - a Christmas stocking for my new great nephew and a Chicago Cubs ornament for my dad who is a lifelong diehard Cubs fan. He is always able to guess all his presents so it was wonderful to completely surprise him. I offered to hang it on my tree but he insisted on taking it home! It was great fun to have family here for the holiday - they're on the way home today so the cats are catching up on sleeping and I'm catching up with my blog and prepping for inventory - not my favorite job but at least it's only once a year. I hope to have a lot less kits to count after this week!

Happy New Year!

It's August - time for new releases!

I cannot believe it is already August - the summer is flying so fast! I'm staying almost too  busy these days but still trying to squeeze in some stitching & designing. I do have four new designs which will be released next week. Shops may pre-order now or order through the online show from Norden which starts August 8th. If you don't have a LNS, you can get them here.

First up are two of my four Elements - these were exclusive to Tomorrow's Heirlooms but now their Club is complete so I can release them to all.  They finish at 5.25x5.25 and also look great if they are done as a four way design with this being one quarter. The first is Earth.
 and this is Water:
The other two (Fire & Air) will be released in the Spring.

Next is Turquoise Trail - I was inspired by one of the colorways in my Curios Mystery and designed this piece - it was really fun and I'm looking forward to maybe doing another southwest inspired design. This goes into my Destination Series and finishes about 6x10.

I've been watching people post photos of pieces with all overdyed Vineyard Silks and was jealous of them using these luscious threads so I pulled mine out and created another "rainbow" of color. This is Color Delights - Rainbow 2! These are some of my favorite threads to work with and now I'm working on a larger piece with them for next year!

Until next time -
Kathy

A new online class...Mint Julep

Registration is open for my new online class, Mint Julep. It closes July 29th so I can get all the supplies ordered to start class September 1st. I fook forward to another great class!

This monochromatic design incorporates a lot of different textured threads and a lot of unusual stitch combinations - it's fun to stitch! The photo doesn't show all the sparkle and texture.

You can see all the colorways and registration info at
https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/46618682/SNS%20Mint%20Julep-2016.pdf

Here's my original piece - I wanted a soft soothing design and chose a variety of mint greens with touches of seafoam and other greens. As usual, I developed a few other colorways. I've included photos of finished pieces from several students.

The other colorways are:

Melon

Neutral

Blues

Lavenders

When I taught it in person, several people asked me about doing dark instead of light borders for some of the alternate colorways. It comletely changes the look and adds drama. There are dark borders for all of the colorways except the original. Here's the Melon colorway done with the dark borders.

On my design board right now is next year's Mystery! No hints yet but I am very excited!

Hope you're staying cool if you live in the sweltering heat like I do!

New Color Delights

Along with Boo Logs, I will be releasing a new Color Delights.  I used Kelp Watercolours and Waterlilies both so am calling this one Kelp. The photo is a little crooked as part of the border got cut off when I edited it... This is the 45th in the Color Delights series. I never dreamed when this series started that I would do this many! Believe it or not, in the beginning it was a monthly club for one year. After a year though, there were still so many colors I wanted to do, it continued. I still really enjoy doing these small pieces and always have one going with me when I travel - they're a perfect little size to tuck in my carry-on!

I've never done a give-away on my blog so this will be the first! Leave a comment with a color suggestion for a future Color Delights and I'll choose a winner (by random number generator) after the weekend on Monday. The winner will get a new Color Delights - Kelp pattern.

Good Luck!
Kathy

Summer Stitching...

I'm enjoying the summer and having some time to design and stitch! I've just sent the long awaited Boo (Halloween) Logs to the printer after taking the final stitches on Sunday. Shops can pre-order now or if you don't have a local shop, you can get it here. Like the other "Logs" designs, Boo Logs is worked entirely with Watercolours and two Kreinik #12 braids. I was so happy when Caron Collection introduced "Coal" with the last new Watercolours - it was the perfect border for this piece!

I took my niece up to North Carolina last week for a little vacation and for her to attend classes at the John Campbell Folk Art School. I have to admit I was a bit jealous dropping her off every morning for "camp" - she had a great time and made paper crafts, painted, sewed, blazed a trail, and more I can't even remember! We managed to sneak in some quilting - she's 8 and I taught her to use Grandma's iron & sewing machine. She picked out fabrics, I cut squares, and she sewed a quilt for her doll. She did a great job and loved it.  I was so pleased she caught on quickly to using the machine and to placing the fabrics in the right places to have a balanced look. She may have the family sewing/needle genes and a natural eye for color and design. I knew she was on the right track when she said, "sewing is more fun than pressing"! I had a good giggle!

In other family news, I became a Great-Aunt last week! My nephew's wife had a baby, Robert Samuel on June 28th - he's my brother's first grandchild and my parent's first Great - it's a little surreal! New life really is amazing and we're so excited to welcome Samuel into the world. Unfortunately, I have to wait a few months to see him in person.

I'm looking forward to being at home for another month before teaching at the ANG Seminar in New Orleans at the end of August. I had a really busy spring/early summer with a lot of travel so am enjoying staying put for a bit! In addition to my many administrative duties, I'll be designing and stitching more than usual! I've got a couple of things going and a few others rattling around gathering creative juices.

Hope you're all having a great summer!

Price Increases

Almost all of the threads I use on a regular basis have increased in price in the last few months. I've absorbed several price increases over the past few years, but the time has come for me to give in and  raise the prices on my kits. Depending on the threads in the kit and how long it has been on the market, price increases range from 5-15%. Here are some examples of the changes in price of a few of my popular kits -
  • Amazing Color, $186, new price will be $191, Sale Price $167.40
  • Autumn Logs, $95, new price will be $106, Sale Price $85.50
  • Colorwaves, $177, new price will be $187, Sale Price $159.3
  • Rainforest Crunch, $81, new price will be $90, Sale Price $72.9
  • Summer Logs, $94, new price will be $110, Sale Price $84.60
  • Tidbits & Poppers, $95 ea, new price will be $98, Sale Price $85.50
To make it more palatable, I'm offering a limited time sale on CURRENT prices until May 8th. To order, you will use the coupon code "NDO SALE" on the website when you check out. Pattern prices are not increasing but the sale is for patterns as well as kits. 10% will be deducted when you enter the coupon code. Everything is on sale, not just the kits listed above.

Price increases will be in effect starting May 9th. I wish I didn't have to do this - it's a lot of work to calculate and then update all the prices on the website!

Coming Soon: I'll soon be releasing (still have to write instructions!) "Land of the Free" - shops will be notified when it is ready! It's part of my Destinations collection.

In fun news, I've starting designing and stitching Boo Logs (aka Halloween Logs) and am enjoying stitching again after so much kitting and teaching! Here's a little sneak peek...it'll be a summer release.

    Until next time,
    Kathy

Last call for Mystery registration!

Yesterday was the registration deadline for my Curios Mystery Class and above is one last peek at part of Lesson One. I'll take registrations today and up to 5pm central time tomorrow (Sunday) as I'm working on the orders I'll place Monday. If you've missed it, here is where I blogged originally. There are photos of the colorways with my comments. Here's a link to the Registration Details.

I'll be glad to get these orders placed and behind me - I leave Thursday for the Nashville wholesale show. It's great fun but lots of work getting ready. I don't really enjoy long car trips so I know I'm working too much when I look forward to the 8 hour drive on Thursday!

If you've missed my new designs to be released next weekend, you can see them on my website.

Hope you're all stitching!

New Delights!

In addition to Sudoku Delight & Poppers, I will be releasing two more patterns at the Nashville market. First up is the new Color Delights - it's Eggplant! The photo doesn't show the richness of the color or the texture of the threads. I used Petite Very Velvet as the darkest color and the Watercolour is Aubergine - isn't that appropriate?! I love purple so it is definitely my newest favorite of the Color Delights!

I'm introducing a new series of designs called Holiday Delights - these will be six by six finished size and great for box tops, pillow inserts, stand-up cubes, or whatever other creative things people are sure to come up with. The first is Independence Day. I've been on a roll with this fun combination of patriotic colors - they're just such fun to work with and the ideas just keep coming! I'm excited about this new series and looking forward to working on the next one! Leave me a comment if you want to request a holiday for me!

These designs will all be released March 4th so look for them at your LNS (ask them to pick them up for you!) after market or if you don't have a LNS, pre-order them here.

I'm headed out of town to teach this weekend - I'm really happy to be getting on a plane and not driving! I'll be able to stitch. I'm working on my last Element, which is Wind. It is designed and threads have been chosen so I'm all set. In the meantime, I'm cutting mass numbers of canvases and drawing the outlines for the Curios Mystery Class - if you've missed the info on this class or have been thinking about signing up, you can see all the details and photos of the colorways here. Registration ends February 26th so I can get all the final supply orders in before I leave for Nashville.

Until next time,
Kathy

Poppers!

Poppers is a bright, fun to stitch project with 192 little squares. Although the layout is the same as Tidbits, all of the square patterns are different. I just love creating small designs and then putting them together like patchwork!
The pattern will be released at the Nashville market.

New for Nashville..

I'm done stitching and almost done writing instructions for my Nashville releases - this is the earliest I've ever been ready for a tradeshow and it feels wonderful! One of my new releases will be Sudoku Delight - this was a class I taught a few years ago and I've had a lot of requests for this pattern. In addition to my original colorway, eight other colorways are listed. This is my Original and the main thread is called Peacock. Most of the colorway names are based on the Rainbow Gallery Bravo overdyed thread which was the inspiration for each colorway.

 This is "Caramels"

This is Caravan #1 (it'd be a great companion to Starstuck's Glowing Embers!)

I've seen photos of the other colorways stitched but can't find them right now so will show you the threads for the others.
Caravan #2
Lagoon
Preserves

Blues & Golds
Paprika
Waterfall
Found the photos! I wrote this post yesterday and have since found photos of some of the colorways stitched up - left the thread photos to show both...
Blue & Gold
Lagoon
Paprika
Waterfall
Stay tuned for the rest of the new releases...

Curios...a Mystery Class

Registration is officially open for this year's online Curios Mystery Class. It's through Shining Needle Society - if you're not a member of SNS, you can join for free at Shining Needle Society.  Above is a tiny part of my stitching - Waffles and Pinwheels, two of my favorite stitches!

You don't have to be a member to register for class - we can take care of getting you signed up for membership along with your registration -- just be sure to let me know you're "new"! I appreciate the people who've already registered - I can tell you the Mountain Haze and Turquoise Trail colorways are running neck and neck, followed closely by Prickly Pear. Along with Kelsch, the new Watercolours are very popular! Because of the numbers and all my travel in the next couple of months, I'll be ordering threads in "batches" to make kits ahead of time - I'll be shipping kits in the order people sign up so don't wait til the last minute, especially if you're requesting a drawn canvas. I'm already starting to draw them and they take a lot longer than last year's!

I decided to call the design "Curios" as the stitches fill the rectangular spaces that were inspired by a curiosity cabinet. I often struggle with naming a design so it's a relief to have finally decided on the title. I'm happy I've had positive feedback and appreciate the people who've told me they liked the name.

For people who've been interested in my "Serenity" class, I'll be teaching at Kelsey's Needle Krafts on March19-20. I'm looking forward to going to Northern Californian again - I spent a lot of time there with friends when I was in college in San Diego so it feels like going "home". I'll also be teaching at the end of September at Needle in a Haystack in Alameda, Ca - classes TBA.

Until next time (I'll soon be showing you my new releases for Nashville!)

Mystery Class Registration starts next week!

I was fortunate to spend a couple of days at Callaway Gardens this week at the needlearts seminar. It's always a pleasure to be among other needlewomen and wonderful to see old and new friends. I spent all day Wednesday in the boutique choosing threads for six additional colorways for my upcoming Mystery Class - yes, it takes hours and hours to choose just the right shades, tints, and hues! Registration will officially start next Tuesday - I'll post the link here when it's up. In the meantime, here's a preview of the colorways. Their names are the same as the main Watercolour that is the inspiration for each. In addition to my "Original" colorway, Mountain Haze, three of the colorways are based on brand new Watercolours. I also did colorways based on Tahiti and Rainforest, two of my most popular colorways.

Here are a couple of photos of small snippets of my piece - taken in different light, the colors vary . Instead of trying to edit them to look the same, I'm showing them to you "as is" to remind you not to trust the color too much on your monitor or in photos!

These are the threads for my "Original" colorway - the Mountain Haze (main Watercolour) is shown at the far left along with the matching Waterlilies thread. The messy threads are Vineyard silks - I didn't have new skeins for the photo...purples and greens with a touch of blue, the piece turns out softer than you might think based on the photo.

This is Prickly Pear - rusts and greens with a touch of gold - I want to design something with this palette!

This is Kelsch - Kelsch is a type of plaid fabric made in France. Reds, blues, and tans, this will make an excellent patriotic version if you're so inclined (and American!).

This is Turquoise Trail - turquoise and rust with a touch of aqua - this will produce a southwest feel and I'd like to design something with this one too!

This is Rainforest - neutrals, browns, and greens, I refer to this as my Earthtone version and I know it will look great!

This is Tahiti - it's bright and fun and one of my favorite Watercolours of all time! This is my "happy colorway"! I don't think the photo does the threads justice...

Last but not least is Rose Quartz - this colorway was developed for a good friend to hang in a special place and coordinate with her decor. She gave me her pillow sham to use as inspiration and it is the background in the photo. It will produce a soft romantic feel with dusty pinks and greens. The 2nd and 3rd Watercolours are a little darker than I would like but they're the right shades and will provide good contrast.
There you have it - which colorway to choose...?! Ponder and add a comment about what you might choose. It'll be fun to see what's most popular!

Until next week, have a great weekend. I'll be stitching - I'm working on my 4th new design for the Nashville market in March! I'll be introducing a new series, something I haven't done in a long time...
