Happy New Year!

Wishing you much love and hope and all the strength, courage, and energy to make 2014 the best year ever. While I enjoyed the holidaying, stitching, and quilting in December, I'm actually looking forward to "getting back to work".  I've just finished stitching (woohoo; I already have a finish for 2014!) a second colorway for a new design I think will be offered through   Shining Needle Society.  Here is the first colorway I did and I’m calling it "Hope".  I have a very close friend who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer so this one is pretty close to my heart and will eventually be sent to her. She was actually diagnosed after I had this done...

I’m calling the second colorway “Love” as it represents my support of the American Heart Association and especially, Women's Heart issues.  Working with red is always a challenge as it doesn’t shade well but I’m happy with the way this turned out.  When I photographed the two, I was especially surprised to see that I’d stitched a different stitch for the background – I didn’t look closely at what I’d done for Hope and just went from memory…It’s a “happy accident” though as it shows different options along with the variety of patterns I’m doing for the corners.
I’m looking forward to creating the other colorways and coming up with the causes I want to support – I’m open to suggestion and would love to hear what is close to your heart.
I wanted to be able to show you a finished Stained Glass Stars but I’m still working on it! The last stitches of 2013 and the first stitches of 2014 were on the background of this piece which I am finally thrilled with – I think I tried about six different things for the background and even stitched one side. I got to take it all out after it kept getting more and more NOT okay the more I got on the canvas. I should be able to finish this up in another couple of stitching sessions. Here’s a part of it…

I’ve got a few other things in the works but next up publicly is appearing at Merchandise Night for Callaway Gardens in a couple of weeks. I’m looking forward to seeing old friends, spending some time with my mom, and of course, shopping in the boutique! I can never have enough threads…

Hope you’re having a great New Year so far – it seems odd to have it in the middle of the week!

Kathy

Autumn Logs pillow

Just a quick post to show my finished Autumn Logs made into a pillow. The center looks washed out in the photo but I can't take another because I sent the pillow up to Fireside Stitchery - they're having a Needle Delights Originals trunk show right now and have over a dozen of my pieces - check them out if you're in the northeast! http://www.firesidestitchery.com/     Today is the first day of my online class "Inchies" - here's the Confetti colorway - one of my students already finished it and sent a photo!     I'm working on something new and will show you a peek soon! More Serenity and something new...

I'm so pleased to show you photos of some of my students' work! They've had such fun stitching Serenity and several have completed it. It's such fun to see the different colorways come to life! First up is Pam B's - it's called "Flowers of Italy". She was clever and added her initials to the piece - can you find them?!   Next is Highland Garden - it was one of the most popular colorways!   And here's Arnhem Heath, the ever popular purple and green!  I'll be teaching this project at Needle in a Haystack in Alameda, CA next month - if you're wanting some Serenity, come join us. You can see all the info here. Kathy

In full swing...

I've been getting ready for my big summer trip - I'm heading to the midwest next month. First I'll be attending the TNNA Needlework tradeshow in St Charles, Missouri and then am heading to Chicago for the ANG National Seminar. I'm taking a class with Orna Willis and looking forward to being with someone who has great color sense! I'll also be participating at Expo Night. I'm looking for a couple of people who have experience in such events who would be willing to help me - contact me privately if you are interested.  Before I go to Seminar, I'll be teaching August 22-23 at Tomorrow's Heirlooms. You can get more details on their Facebook page here . I'm really having fun working on the piece and wish I could show you part of it but alas, it's a Mystery! I haven't done a Mystery class for the last two years and I'm happy to be designing another - I look forward to being able to share it and eventually publish it. I will be releasing six
