Mystery Announcement & Happy Thanksgiving!

Registration is underway for my new Mystery Project. This class is being offered through Shining Needle Society and you can get all the details at https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/46618682/SNS_Starstruck%20Mystery%20Announcement2014.pdf. I've completely finished stitching it and have such a hard time not showing it to everyone! I took it to my quilting retreat last week and proudly showed it off to my friends there - some of them may be lured over to the dark side as they expressed an interest in the class!

Here's a sneak peek...

I've got to get to work - Thanksgiving is at my house tomorrow! Wish me luck cooking a turkey by myself for the first time ever! My mom is here but she's now allowed to come into the kitchen until I've got the turkey in the oven! I've made several attempts in the past but she always takes over while I happily step aside!

Happy Thanksgiving!

It will go fine. Long ago I cooked my first turkey by means of a cookbook and no assistance. I'm talking one daughter thru it long distance and the other one has left it to her husband.

  2. Good Luck with your turkey. The best turkey I ever made was in a brown paper bag from the grocery store. Used 2 bags (on inside the other), put bacon grease on the inner bag's insides, stuck the turkey in and stabled it shut. I did my turkey's that way for many years, until grocery stores stopped using the paper bags. Now that they are coming back in favor, can't wait until next year to bake my turkey :0 Have fun and welcome the ladies into your kitchen, a little wine or hot toddies makes it even more fun LOL

2020 Mystery

It's official - registration is open for my 2020 Mystery - Banded by Bargello! You can get all the details here . I used Planet Earth silks and Pepper Pot for the first time in this project. The silk is a bit thick for 18ct which made it perfect for bargello with excellent coverage. I loved the Pepper Pot so expect to see it in future projects. I also used overdyed threads from ThreadworX - pearl cotton, floss, Vineyard Silk, and metallic braid. Here's a photo of the threads I used and a couple of snippets of my stitched piece. Using all the ThreadworX was like reconnecting with an old friend - I used quite a variety! I had a great time choosing the alternate colorways - I was in one of my favorite shops, Elegant Stitch , surrounded by walls and drawers of threads. Of course, while I was there, I chose threads for a few future projects! Here are photos of the four alternate colorways - I may have to use one of them for a new design! Earthtones is based on R...

More Serenity and something new...

I'm so pleased to show you photos of some of my students' work! They've had such fun stitching Serenity and several have completed it. It's such fun to see the different colorways come to life! First up is Pam B's - it's called "Flowers of Italy". She was clever and added her initials to the piece - can you find them?!   Next is Highland Garden - it was one of the most popular colorways!   And here's Arnhem Heath, the ever popular purple and green!  I'll be teaching this project at Needle in a Haystack in Alameda, CA next month - if you're wanting some Serenity, come join us. You can see all the info here. Kathy

New Color Delights

Along with Boo Logs, I will be releasing a new Color Delights .  I used Kelp Watercolours and Waterlilies both so am calling this one Kelp. The photo is a little crooked as part of the border got cut off when I edited it... This is the 45th in the Color Delights series. I never dreamed when this series started that I would do this many! Believe it or not, in the beginning it was a monthly club for one year. After a year though, there were still so many colors I wanted to do, it continued. I still really enjoy doing these small pieces and always have one going with me when I travel - they're a perfect little size to tuck in my carry-on!    I've never done a give-away on my blog so this will be the first! Leave a comment with a color suggestion for a future Color Delights and I'll choose a winner (by random number generator) after the weekend on Monday. The winner will get a new Color Delights - Kelp pattern.   Good Luck! Kathy
