Back from California...

I've been home for a week and am just about caught up! It's a good thing since I'm leaving again next Sunday! This time I'm going to Shipshewana for a quilting retreat with my mom - we go every year but missed last year because we were in Santa Fe. We're so looking forward to seeing our friends, quilting, relaxing, and of course, shopping and eating! This is one of my favorite weeks of the year and is total ME time - no work although I will check emails sporadically.

I had the most fabulous time in California - I taught two classes at Needle in a Haystack in Alameda. My students were wonderful and came from all over - east coast, Phoenix, Canada, and even England! Here's Annie from England - I had a special connection with her as we share the same birthday!

Here are a couple of fairly new canvas stitchers - they caught on quickly and were a teacher's dream!

Here's some of the class on the 2nd day - such fun ladies!

Several people brought things to show me and I wanted to share them with you! Here is my Galaxy design done in colors she picked out herself - we put it up in the middle of the trunk show and it goes great with Autumn Logs! She will be making it into a pillow and did a fab job picking out the colors. She shared her thread choices with me so if you'd like them, just let me know.

Here it is by itself right side up (I put it up upside down on the wall and we just left it that way!)

She also stitched Rainforest Revisited but stitched half on one canvas and the other half on a separate canvas to have two square pillows. She'd also done Rainforest Crunch so will have a trio of square pillows along with the larger Galaxy pillow on her sofa. Here's one of the Rainforest Revisited pieces.

Another of Cathe's customers used one of my Double Delights patterns (Charbleu) for the center of a design for a tallit bag she'd worked out herself. She also changed the colors to suit her preference. I love seeing people take the small designs and use them in alternative ways!

Amy drove in from Phoenix with a load of canvases of my designs - she may have stitched everything I've designed! It was most impressive especially since she'd done all 12 of the Double Delights not only in the original colors, but also in the alternate colorways listed on the patterns! I'd not even seen all of them done! Here's my favorite alternate - I challenge you to figure out which design it is!

There's lots more but I'll save it for another day...

Until then,
Kathy

2020 Mystery

It's official - registration is open for my 2020 Mystery - Banded by Bargello! You can get all the details here . I used Planet Earth silks and Pepper Pot for the first time in this project. The silk is a bit thick for 18ct which made it perfect for bargello with excellent coverage. I loved the Pepper Pot so expect to see it in future projects. I also used overdyed threads from ThreadworX - pearl cotton, floss, Vineyard Silk, and metallic braid. Here's a photo of the threads I used and a couple of snippets of my stitched piece. Using all the ThreadworX was like reconnecting with an old friend - I used quite a variety! I had a great time choosing the alternate colorways - I was in one of my favorite shops, Elegant Stitch , surrounded by walls and drawers of threads. Of course, while I was there, I chose threads for a few future projects! Here are photos of the four alternate colorways - I may have to use one of them for a new design! Earthtones is based on R...

More Serenity and something new...

I'm so pleased to show you photos of some of my students' work! They've had such fun stitching Serenity and several have completed it. It's such fun to see the different colorways come to life! First up is Pam B's - it's called "Flowers of Italy". She was clever and added her initials to the piece - can you find them?!   Next is Highland Garden - it was one of the most popular colorways!   And here's Arnhem Heath, the ever popular purple and green!  I'll be teaching this project at Needle in a Haystack in Alameda, CA next month - if you're wanting some Serenity, come join us. You can see all the info here. Kathy

New Color Delights

Along with Boo Logs, I will be releasing a new Color Delights .  I used Kelp Watercolours and Waterlilies both so am calling this one Kelp. The photo is a little crooked as part of the border got cut off when I edited it... This is the 45th in the Color Delights series. I never dreamed when this series started that I would do this many! Believe it or not, in the beginning it was a monthly club for one year. After a year though, there were still so many colors I wanted to do, it continued. I still really enjoy doing these small pieces and always have one going with me when I travel - they're a perfect little size to tuck in my carry-on!    I've never done a give-away on my blog so this will be the first! Leave a comment with a color suggestion for a future Color Delights and I'll choose a winner (by random number generator) after the weekend on Monday. The winner will get a new Color Delights - Kelp pattern.   Good Luck! Kathy
